Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 7/12/2026.
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains the information collection, use, and sharing practices of Paraphrase Tool (“we,” “us,” and “our”) in connection with our Chrome browser extension and our website at paraphrase-tool-app.com (together, the “Services”).
Before you use or submit any information through or in connection with the Services, please carefully review this Privacy Policy. By using any part of the Services, you understand that your information will be collected, used, and disclosed as outlined in this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use our Services.
Our Principles
Paraphrase Tool has designed this Policy to be consistent with the following principles:
- Privacy policies should be human readable and easy to find.
- Data collection, storage, and processing should be simplified as much as possible to enhance security, ensure consistency, and make the practices easy for users to understand.
- Data practices should meet the reasonable expectations of users.
- We do not require an account, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways: information you actively submit through the Services, information that is collected automatically as you use the Services, and information you provide when you contact us.
Content You Submit
The core function of the extension is to process text you choose to submit — for example, text you type, paste, or select on a web page in order to paraphrase, rephrase, correct, expand, or shorten it. When you request a result, the text you submit is transmitted to our servers and processed to generate the output that is returned to you. We retain a record of submitted text together with a unique identifier assigned to your installation, the number of tokens processed, and the date and time, in order to operate the Services, maintain and debug the Services, and measure usage for service limits and possible future paid plans.
We do not use the text you submit to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not sell it. The text you submit is used solely to provide and operate the Services.
Information You Provide Directly to Us
If you contact us or submit feedback (for example, through a support email or a feedback form), we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your email address and the content of your message. We use this information to respond to and process your request.
Information that Is Automatically Collected
Identifier
When you install the extension, a random identifier is generated and stored on your device. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information. We use it to operate the Services, associate requests with a single installation for usage limits, and link anonymous usage events.
Device and Usage Information
We automatically collect certain technical and usage information, which may include your browser type and version, operating system, browser language, IP address, and the date and time of your requests. We also collect information about how you interact with the Services, such as which features you use, the settings you select (for example, language, tone, and style), and, where you use a feature on a web page, the hostname of that page (for example, example.com — not the full page address or its contents). We use third-party analytics providers to help us collect and analyze this usage information. The text you submit is never included in this analytics information.
Information Stored on Your Device
Certain information is stored locally on your device and remains under your control, including your identifier, session information, your extension settings and preferences, and a recent history of your results. This information stays on your device until you clear the extension's storage or uninstall the extension.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to measure site traffic and understand how visitors use the site. You can change your browser settings to notify you when a cookie is being set or to block cookies altogether. Please note that by blocking cookies, you may not have access to certain features of the website.
How We Use Your Information
We may use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Services and generate the results you request.
- Measure token and feature usage in order to apply service limits and to support possible future paid plans.
- Debug, secure, and improve the Services, including developing new features.
- Understand how the Services are used through aggregated and anonymous analytics.
- Respond to your inquiries, feedback, and support requests.
- Comply with applicable law and protect the safety, rights, property, and security of Paraphrase Tool, the Services, our users, and the general public.
We may aggregate and/or de-identify information collected through the Services and use such data for any lawful purpose, including research and improving the Services.
When We Disclose Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose your information under the following circumstances:
Service Providers.
We may share your information with third parties who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting and infrastructure, artificial intelligence processing used to generate results, and analytics. These providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us. Providers that process the text you submit do so only to generate your requested result; our analytics providers do not receive the text you submit.
Legal Compliance and Protection.
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or on a good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary or appropriate to: (a) comply with legal process; (b) enforce or apply our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy, including investigation of potential violations; (c) respond to your requests for customer support; or (d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Paraphrase Tool, our users, and the public, including for fraud prevention and abuse protection.
Business Transfers.
As we continue to develop our business, we may engage in certain business transactions, such as the transfer or sale of our assets. In such transactions (including in contemplation of such transactions), your information may be disclosed or transferred as one of the business assets.
Consent.
We may disclose your information to third parties where you have consented to such disclosure.
Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data
The laws in some jurisdictions require companies to tell you about the legal ground they rely on to use or disclose information that can be linked to or used to identify you. To the extent those laws apply, our legal grounds for processing such information are as follows:
To Honor Our Contractual Commitments to You.
Much of our processing of information is to meet our contractual obligations to provide the Services to our users.
Legitimate Interests.
In many cases, we handle information on the ground that it furthers our legitimate interests in ways that are not overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the affected individuals. These interests include operating and securing the Services, analyzing and improving the Services, protecting our users and property, and managing our business.
Legal Compliance.
We may need to use and disclose information in certain ways to comply with our legal obligations.
Consent.
Where required by law, and in some other cases where legally permissible, we handle information on the basis of consent. Where we handle your information on the basis of consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent in accordance with applicable law.
Online Analytics
We use third-party analytics providers to collect and analyze usage information described in the “Information that Is Automatically Collected” section above, and to engage in auditing, research, and reporting. This information helps us evaluate use of the Services, analyze usage trends, and improve the product. The analytics information we collect is limited to usage events and does not include the text you submit for processing.
Your Choices and Data Subject Rights
You have various rights with respect to the collection and use of your information through the Services.
Local Data
You may clear the information stored locally by the extension at any time through your browser's settings or by uninstalling the extension.
Access and Deletion
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the information we hold that is associated with your installation. To exercise these rights, please email us at ai.writing.assistant.ext@gmail.com describing your request.
EU/EEA Data Subject Rights
Individuals in the European Economic Area (“EEA”) and other jurisdictions have certain legal rights (subject to applicable exceptions and limitations) to obtain confirmation of whether we hold information about them, to access such information, and to obtain its correction or deletion in appropriate circumstances. You may also have the right to object to or restrict our processing of your information, and to withdraw any consent you have provided. To exercise these rights, please email us at ai.writing.assistant.ext@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your relevant supervisory authority, but we encourage you to contact us first so that we may resolve your concerns directly.
International Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. This means that some of your information may be processed in countries that may not offer the same level of protection as the privacy laws of your jurisdiction. Where required, we take appropriate measures to ensure that your information is adequately protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
Security Measures
We have implemented technical and organizational security measures designed to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of your information. However, we cannot and do not guarantee that these measures will prevent every unauthorized attempt to access, use, or disclose your information, since despite our efforts, no Internet or other electronic transmission can be completely secure.
Data Retention
We retain the information we collect for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy, including to operate the Services, apply usage limits, and maintain records for possible future paid plans, or as long as we are legally required or permitted to do so. Information may persist in copies made for backup and business continuity purposes for additional time.
Children
The Services are not directed at children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information (as defined by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) from children under the age of 13, or personal data (as defined by the EU GDPR) from children under the age of 16, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as soon as practicable.
Third-Party Links and Services
The Services may contain links to third-party websites and services, such as the Chrome Web Store and feedback forms. If you choose to use these sites or features, any information you provide will be subject to the privacy policies of those third parties, and not this Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such third-party websites or services, and we encourage you to read their privacy statements.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We will continue to evaluate this Privacy Policy as we update and expand our Services, and we may make changes to the Privacy Policy accordingly. We will post any changes here and revise the date last updated above. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will provide you with notice as required by law.
